No rest for teams in Brazilian futsal playoff. Carlos Barbosa (ACBF) hosted Joaçaba last night in the Round of 16. Their first match ended in a 1-1 draw so both teams had a lot to play for.
Both teams were still testing each other in the first half, which was emphasized by good defending from both teams, but none managed to find the back of the net.
In the second half we could have seen a bit more attacking style from both teams, especially from Joaçaba for whom the draw was equal to defeat in this case.
6 minutes before full-time that attacking mentality payed off for Joaçaba. After a beautiful team play, Yan had no problem in putting the ball behind and visiting Joaçaba ahead of Carlos Barbosa.
Just two minutes later, after a nice passing play in the final third of the court, ACBF's Lé equalized the score, 1-1! That was the result that took both teams into extra-time, but it was the Joaçaba that had to score more goals or be excused from the playoff.
In extra-time, Joaçaba played very aggressively and accumulated six fouls still in the first period of extra-time. Fernando was secure from the 10m mark and put ACBF in front.
But, Joaçaba was not done just yet! Playing with 'flying goalkeeper', Joaçaba's Murillo tied the match once again after a very nice passing play in front of the ACBF goal.
Another 10m free-kick and a penalty were enough for Carlos Barbosa to seal the fate of Joaçaba. Fernando converted both of them into goals. By the end of the match, Pedro Rei stole one ball and scored for the final result of 5-2.
