Joinville secures semifinal in thee Brazilian playoff!

After winning over Pato with a big 5-1 win in the first match, Joinville secured the semifinal berth in the playoff after another victory. This time around, they had to work for it all the way in the extra-time, after losing the regulation time with 2-3. That took the match in extra-time, where Joinville won 2-0 and progresses to the semifinal.

Genaro opened the scoring for Joinville immediately after match start. Pato then started to press more in search for the equalizer. At the end of the first half, Valença scored from a penalty, leveling the game.

By the middle of the second half, Rodriguinho put the hosts in front once again and Pato had a mountain to climb. However, Pato managed just that. Thanks to the late efforts by Perin and again Valença, Pato managed to win in regulation time with a 2-3 result.

That put the match in extra-time and whoever was victorious after 10 minutes of play would progress to the semifinal.

Joinville was dominating the possesion but were unable to score in the first half of the extra-time. Then, after a nice individual effort by Dieguinho, Machado had no problem putting the ball behind for Joinville lead. By the end of the match, Leco scored another and put Joinville in the semifinal of the playoff draw.

Joinville now waits for the winner of Carlos Barbosa - Corinthians tie.
