After being left unmarked on the right side of the box, Deives opened the scoring in the first half with a nicely placed shot that keeper was unable to stop. This meant that Joinville now had a mountain to climb as draw would not mean much to them.
Few minutes later they managed to make the first step. Joinville's Genaro had taken a penalty kick which he missed. The ball got rebounded however back to him and this time he put it away to equalize the result.
Around the middle of the second half, Deives again found the back of the net after a quick and perfect reaction in front of the goalkeeper. With less than 10 minutes from full-time, Joinville now had to push with everything they had because Corinthians had a 2-1 lead.
Corinthians managed to withstand Joinville's pressure until the end of the match without conceding a goal. In fact, in the last minute, thanks to a nice technique by Deives, he managed to get some space and place a shot on an empty goal to confirm his team's victory in this duel - 3-1 for Corinthians!
