Benfica and Sporting for the League Cup

No surprises in the Portuguese League Cup semifinals as both favorites win their opponents and qualify for the big finale on schedule later today (18:00 local time).

Sporting CP 4-2 AD Fundão

Sporting has won against AD Fundão with a 4:2 victory. The match started fairly well for Sporting when Fundão's Mário Freitas scored an own goal in the opening minutes of the match. Sporting took this lead to the break.

Rocha extended Sporting's lead after the break, but proper excitement was incoming. In a space of two minutes, Fundão scored two goals to equalize the result. The first one was an own goal by Tomás Paçó before Mário Freitas equalized with more than 10 minutes to go.

However, Tomás Paçó redeemed himself with a goal to bring back Sporting's lead, with Erick Mendonça securing the victory a few minutes before full time.

SL Benfica 2-0 Modicus

In the other semifinal of the League Cup, Benfica won against Modicus 2-0, securing their place in the final for the big Lisbon derby.

Modicus managed to keep their net clear in the first half, but they were also unlucky in front of Benfica's goal, so teams welcomed the break with 0-0 still on the scoreboard.

Immediately in the second half, however, Robinho scored a screamer for Benfica's lead.

Fábio Cecílio only confirmed Benfica's victory in the 33rd minute.
