Portuguese futsal league continued this weekend and the fight for the top of the table keeps getting more intense with each passing week. After Sporting "slipped" and drew against Leões on Friday, Benfica recorded a win against AD Modicus Sandim to secure a provisional top of the table.
>>> Surprise in Portugal: Leão stops mighty Sporting!
After recording a huge victory against Dínamo Sanjoanense (15-2) earlier this week, Benfica played away against Modicus. In a match they dominated from the start, Benfica won 4-0 thanks to two goals by Hossein Tayebi and one goal by Ivan Chiskala and Tiago Brito.
Benfica now holds the top of the table in Portugal with 3 points ahead of Sporting. However, Sporting has one match less than Benfica and it seems at the moment that the two teams are in a deadlock for the first position.
Viseu 2001 won 5-3 while traveling to Futsal Azemeis to take the top of the 'best-of-the-rest' pack in third position, following Medicus' loss to Benfica. Playoff hopefuls Electrico won 4-3 away against CR Candoso and got more comfortable in the playoff spots, just like AD Fundao who also won away (3-1) against Belenenses.
In a high-scoring match, Braga won 6-5 against their direct rivals for playoff position Portimonense and now find themself trailing just one point for a playoff spot.
