The CONCACAF Futsal Championship (CFC) has reached its final stage. The defending back-to-back champions Costa Rica secured another final of the competition where they will face the challenge of the United States.
Panama 1-3 Costa Rica
Costa Rica is through to another CFC final, but it was everything but easy. Carlos Perez's goal gave Panama the lead just before half-time.
It took Costa Rica a while to score and equalize the match. But eventually, it was Daniel Gomez who scored two goals in just three minutes to turn things around. He was joined by his teammate Minor Cabalceta on the scoresheet moments before full time.
United States (p)2-2 Guatemala
The United States' team has confirmed pundit's opinion before the tournament that they are the team to watch this time around. In a thrilling futsal match, they have managed to pip Guatemala, the hosts, after a penalty shoot-out.
Americans took the lead in the first half thanks to a well-placed shot by Lucho Gonzales. However, just 30 seconds into the second half, Guatemala struck even, thanks to a sliding effort by José Mancia.
However, by full time neither team managed to find the back of the net and the match went to extra time. Edgar Santizo put the hosts in front in extra time, and Americans had to find the inner strength to get back into the match.
And Jeremy Klepal did just that for the USA. His shot did take a deflection on the way to the goal, but nobody is asking. This goal brought the match to the penalty shoot-out.
It took seven rounds to decide the winner, but in the end, it was the United States who are through to the big final!
The final match between Costa Rica and the United States is on schedule later today at 18:00 local time. The final will be preceded by a match for third place between Guatemala and Panama.
