Once again, players and staff of AFC Kairat Almaty have been crowned champions of Kazakhstan!
Although this news might not come as a surprise to an avid futsal follower, the manner in which Kairat pushed through this year's league campaign and especially playoffs is nothing short of - simply fantastic!
They have finished the league stage with 30 victories, 1 draw, and only one loss. In the playoffs, Kairat has a perfect score.
First, they have eliminated Okzhetpes 2-0 in the quarterfinal series. In the semifinals, they cruised over Ayat with 3-0 in the series. Finally, Atyrau who have eliminated Aktobe in the semifinal was no match to Kairat. In three matches, all three were dominated by Kairat!
To top this off, Kairat also had a good stint in the UEFA Futsal Champions League, where they reached the semifinals. To get there, they have defeated VITEN Orsha, United Galati, and Benfica SL. They were knocked out by Barça in a great duel between two top teams.
Also, after the season finale, individual awards were in order. Kairat's Edson won the Award for the best goalscorer in Kazakhstan's championship, Leo Higuita received an award for the best goalkeeper, while Dauren Tursagulov is the best player in Kazakhstan!
